Lesser Scaups, Buffleheads and Wood Ducks, oh my!
Forty-mile-per-hour gusts weren't enough to keep us away from the Cumberland County Eagle Festival. While the wind was gnarly, the birding was well worth the chill.
We were treated to a great look at a Northern Flicker nearby and the highlight, came from a tip: a fellow birder pointed us toward a local wood duck spot along a main road. We pulled off and had a brief, close-up encounter with a Turkey Vulture before finding the Wood Ducks. They were easily spooked so no great shots, but seeing them clearly through the binoculars was a win in its own right.
Sometimes, the best views are the ones you keep just for yourself.
