The press release is ever so important when it comes to spreading news but there’s always changes in the industry. The internet has changed all the rules. When trying to stand out from the crowd new, sometimes unorthodox methods are the best way to create excitement.
Today we discuss three tips to get more attention, raise online visibility, and boost engagement for your band.
Newsjacking: Staying relevant with timely stories. Playing off news stories and tabloids are a clever and quirky way to use already published stories to boost your content. Whether it’s a witty comment or a jingle to match it, this is a fun way to get lots of press mentions. Include photos, videos, quotes, anything to make it fun! Don’t forget those hashtags.
News releases: Cut the fluff, rely on keywords! Don’t just wait for a new album or tour to send out information. Not only that but the content does not have to just go out to media outlets, but ‘buyers’ or fans as well. Fans can spread information directly through the target market for free. What better way to get information out than through an outlet that not only willingly do so, but will share the direct message passionately. Be sure to include links that have landing pages on your artist homepage, ticket pages, and merch pages. Tagging and multimedia content is always good too!
Newsroom: Your home base for your artist must have a newsroom. Journalist, PR Reps, fans, investors and everyone in between will visit your website for information. You want everything to be accessible, written in an easy to read format so that anyone can understand. What should you have? Multi media content: Video clips of live performances, previous interviews, photos from shows, footage from news coverage. Finally, have a call to action. Do you want fans to buy the music or buy concert tickets? Does the social media pages need more followers? Create a focus so that outlets know your purpose and can help you reach your goal!
